Michael is a retired lawyer, historian and museum administrator who has been working with wood for over 40 years, producing furniture, sculpture and artistic turnings. Since retiring early in 2022 he has been focusing on his sculpture as a long-delayed outlet for creative impulse. He is an award-winning member of several wood working groups, and has displayed in various galleries and shops in the Capital District of NY.
Being of Irish origin, I come from a multi-generational line of artists, and have always felt art to be a major part of my life. I have long been personally fascinated by wood as an artistic medium. Even without formal training in the art field, wood textures, colors, and the astonishing variations in grain patterns have all brought me to a point where each piece speaks to me and tells me what it wants to be as it begins it’s journey into a second life. All of my turnings highlight this variety, and now I find the same concept moves seamlessly along into the development and production of sculpture.
